Apis mellifica is a remedy of benefit for bites and stings. In this case the skin is red, hot, swollen, possibly looking shiny like the skin is stretched because of the swelling. Heat helps these symptoms to feel better. The pains are sharp and stinging (think what a paper wasp sting or bee sting feels like)

This appearance may occur following an allergic reaction to something that results in a histamine reaction such as hives. The swelling may affect other body parts such as throat and eyes e.g. conjunctivitis and styes.

Apis helps to absorb excess fluid anywhere on the body. This accumulation of fluid may include in the lungs such as pneumonia or pleurisy like presentations. It may also be of use in urinary tract infections.
