Red, hot and swollen

Bites. Apis mellifica is a remedy of benefit for bites and stings, especially wasp and bee stings. In this case the skin is red, hot, swollen, possibly looking shiny like the skin is stretched because of the swelling. Cold applications help these symptoms to feel better. The pains are burning, sharp, stinging (think what a paper wasp sting or bee sting feels like).

Allergic reactions. This appearance may occur following an allergic reaction to something that results in a histamine reaction such as hives. The swelling may affect other body parts such as sore throat and eyes e.g. conjunctivitis and styes. 

General Oedema. Apis helps to absorb excess fluid anywhere on the body. This accumulation of fluid may include in the lungs such as pneumonia or pleurisy like presentations. Kidney dysfunction may often leads to fluid accumulation in the lower legs and this remedy may help acutely as can Natrum muriaticum tissue salt.

In the mental sphere, the person may “sting” with their words, directing cutting insults at others. They may have strong and passionate emotions like jealousy. They may also be despondent, dissatisfied with causeless crying.
