Hypericum

Any time there is pain that feels like an electric shock that travels upwards, Hypericum may be useful, regardless of the condition.

The character of the pain is

• shooting
• travels along the nerve
• electric shock sensation
• shoots upwards
• intense as to cause fainting

It is the first remedy to think of when there is injury to nerves, especially the peripheral nerves. Injuries such as punctured wounds and lacerations.

Examples include

• Injury of the finger tips such as after they have been slammed in the car the door or such like

• Puncture wounds such as treading on nails, needles or pins

• When nerve pain remains after visiting the dentist

• Phantom pains in amputated limbs

• Injury to coccyx

• Headaches or depression after injury to head

• Bad effects of shock

I used Hypericum myself after an episode of dental treatment where a nerve in my jaw had been injured, the nerve pain felt like an electric shock across my whole face (trigeminal nerve pain). The relief of pain was almost instant and I only needed one dose! A friend also experienced the instant relief of nerve pain following dental treatment with a single dose – she had been in pain for weeks.

Hypericum may also be of use for the very uncomfortable nerve pain associated with the sequelae of shingles and is listed in the Banerji Protocols for this condition.

Another pathological condition that may be helped is carpal tunnel syndrome, with the pain travelling up the median nerve in the forearm.

In the mental sphere there may be depression or melancholy due to the pain.
