Nat phos

10/02/2026 by Jayne

Natrum phosphoricum

Three beakers with coloured liquids

Acidity regulator

Nat-phos helps when the acute symptoms of “heart burn” or acid reflux is present. Often these eructations have a sour taste. This results from conditions arising from excess of lactic acid, often resulting from too much sugar. Munching on a Nat-phos tissue salt tablet will quickly resolve this uncomfortable feeling.

There is a misconception that heart burn results from too much acid in the stomach and common ant-acid over the counter preparations from the chemist / pharmacy are made to neutralise this acid. However, habitual use of this type of medication can raise the pH of stomach acid which should be around a pH of 2. This acid environment is designed to break down proteins consumed in the diet. If the pH is raised, thus weakening the acid, the acid is not able to do its job so the stomach produces more acid to try to combat this. This then exacerbates the problem requiring the consumption of more ant-acid medications.

Also, when the stomach empties with its acidic contents, the acid is counteracted by the very alkaline digestive juices coming from the pancreas. If the stomach chime is not acidic enough, the caustic nature of the pancreatic secretions are not fully neutralised and this causes “burning” of the lining of the duodenum resulting in ulcers.

Altering the pH of the digestive tract at the beginning of the digestive process affects the entire digestive tract as the body tries to deal with the imbalance at each step of the very intricate process of digesting food into usable molecules for the body to use.

This is why I am a non-believer in taking bicarb soda to alkalise the body. The best way to alkalise the body is to consume vegetables. (Although proponents of the carnivore diet will debate me on this).

Other uses for Nat-phos

Creamy, yellow discharges are treatable with this remedy. They may appear anywhere on the body, eyes, nose, back of mouth. In tonsillitis where there is thick creamy membrane over the tonsils. In sore throats where there is a sensation of a lump or hair at the back of the throat.

Discharges are acidic or sour. Sour vomiting (morning sickness). Leucorrhoea that is sour smelling

It is an easy option remedy for intestinal round or thread worms, accompanied by itching of the anus and grinding or the teeth in children

Hives where the skin is smooth, red, shining, itching. Itching especially around the ankles

A remedy to try for writers cramp (along with Calc fluor)
